baptisms, weddings and funerals

Through all the stages of life, joyful and sorrowful, we are here for you - whether it be the excitement of a new life and a welcome into the church, the joy of being joined together in marriage or dealing with grief and the loss of a loved one we want to walk alongside you.

baptism

welcomed into god's family

Baptism – or Christening – is a service in which a person is welcomed into God’s family, the Church. We use symbols of oil, light and water and invite you to make a commitment to God. You can be baptized at any age. Babies who are too young to understand are baptized with promises made on their behalf by parents and Godparents.

Before baptism you are invited to a preparation evening, where the service and its meaning are explained in greater depth and you have the opportunity to ask questions.

Baptisms are held by arrangement, usually on a Sunday afternoon.

weddings

joined together by god

Getting married is one of the most important steps we will ever take. There are all sorts of decisions to be made about how that marriage is to be celebrated including where to get married.

For generations people have come to St Andrew's for marriage. Getting married in church has been important to many of them because it allows a couple to make their promises to each other in the sight of God and gives the opportunity to ask for God's blessing.

There are some legal requirements about who can be married in a parish church. We want to help, so if you are interested in holding your wedding here, get in touch and we can advise you.

funerals

commended into god's loving arms

From the moment you are in touch with us, throughout the funeral service, and for as long as you need us afterwards, we're here for you. We will listen to you, so that your loved one's funeral is a fitting tribute.

Funerals can be held in church or in a crematorium and your initial point of contact usually is your chosen funeral director, who will then get in touch with us.  However, you can always talk to us, so please get in touch if you would like to discuss anything.

Dealing with the loss of a loved one is hard. In addition to funerals, we offer a series of meetings each year called The Bereavement Journey where people help one another through loss. Please do get in touch if this would interest you.
